I was surprised when looking at many statistics to find that Sweden is the best at practically everything. (except military capability). They have the highest quality of life in the world, lowest crime rate, highest literacy rate, one of the longest life spans, lowest infant mortality, and its rated #1 in the world on the democracy index (US is #17). There are so many other things too where Sweden is in the top 5. Why is Sweden so much better than other countries?

Way back in March, 2008, Science Daily (sciencedaily.com) published details from a report by the Federal Interagency Forum on Aging-Related Statistics, called “Older Americans 2008: Key Indicators of Well-Being”, which they termed a unique, comprehensive look at aging in the United States.
The key indicators they presented are pretty interesting: Population, Income, Health Status, Health Risks and Behaviors, Health Care, Housing, Use of Time and Health Literacy.
Health literacy is the key concern for seniors, because as the report stated: “the average level of health literacy–the extent to which people can obtain, process and understand basic health information and services–was lower than…

I’ve read many answers here where parents have claimed to spank their children to keep them out of jail, when ironically the majority of people in prison were spanked as children. They often cite that spanking will help prevent their kids from being drop-outs, getting pregnant as a teenager and doing drugs, but the states where the drop-out, teen pregnancy, and crime rates are amongst the highest are the ones in the South like Louisiana and Arkansas where corporal punishment is more common. In comparison, countries like Sweden where spanking is illegal have very low crime rates, and a very…

We are all fairly savvy to the fact that we live in an increasingly global society in which our neighbor is from Ecuador, our colleague is from France and the person who teaches our child is from Sweden! We realize as adults how difficult it is to learn a new language after our youth, but we keep reading that it is the perfect time for our own children to begin the language learning!
Time & Newsweek ran feature articles years ago about the window of opportunity for second language learning being somewhere between birth and ten years old. It is…

As globalization takes hold of our collective society, the English language is quickly becoming the universal language for many reasons. For one, business across borders as well as over the internet, whether it is conducted by small companies or multi-national corporations is largely conducted in English. Global politics and diplomacy are largely conducted in English as well. In fact, English is the world’s second largest native language, the official language in 70 countries, and English-speaking nations are responsible for about 40 percent of the world’s total Gross National Product. Part of this can be attributed to the USA’s status as…
