The ability to read and write is essential, but not sufficient of itself, to ensure personal success or human progress. Literacy provides access to ideas and information but assures neither the value nor accuracy of either. The inability to distinguish the good from the bad has brought upon the human race a great many of the sorrows through which it has had to pass.
