ProLiteracy, the world's largest organization of adult literacy and basic education programs, today called for greater U.S. investment in foreign assistance funding for literacy programs, funding for UNESCO literacy efforts and expanding student scholarship funding similar to its program that brought President Obama's father from Kenya to the United States.
ProLiteracy recommends that the Obama administration include an adult literacy component in the Initiating Foreign Assistance Reform Act of 2009 (H.R. 2139), and develop policies to ensure UNESCO funding for adult literacy is deployed effectively.
