Product Description
This text is the first of its kind to focus specifically on content area literacy instruction for the elementary grades using reading, writing, and discussion as tools for learning content in science, social studies, and mathematics as students are learning to read and write. I am working with an after school program for ESL kids in 3rd and 4th grade, with a focus on improving writing and literacy. There are four kids in the group I will be reading to, and each has a college student (like myself) acting as a tutor for one-on-one coaching with reading and writing. I have a few ideas, but I’m interested in getting a few more. Any ideas for a response activity that isn’t a “write and draw” type worksheet would be really great, too. Thanks!

Our Elementary school is in desperate need of literacy books…Does anyone know of any good ways to raise funds for these books? We really don’t want to do a fundraiser, since the kids do fundraisers throughout the year. Or is there any place who would donate the literacy books? The books are quite expensive..and our school has over 500 students. Thank you for any information.
They are the leveled reading books. The child starts at level 1 and works up and up..I believe there are 26 levels, but don’t quote me on that.o.k.

For example, if a student who knows zero English is enrolled at a public school, does he attend all regular classes? Do schools typically have a program for ESL students? What is that like?
