Picture books for children have become a great tradition over the last century. Most people couldn’t imagine a childhood without lots of beautifully illustrated books. However, many people think picture books are not really that important. That they are just a stepping stone on the path to ‘real’ reading. While it is true that children must eventually move on to more sophisticated books, it is a mistake to think that picture books are just preparation for later reading. Here are 5 good reasons why:

i’d like to hold a book drive at school where kids can bring in their gently used books from home… but where could i send them after they’re collected. i’d like to make the month of may be about promoting literacy..so i’d like the books to be given out to children in need. i cant ship them cuz that would cost money so i’d like something local. something in boise idaho or around there would be nice. i looked at the operation wishbook but it says only new books. anyone have any ideas?

I know a lot of people who are really confident and have great social skills, they are also quite clever. The thing I notice they have in common is that they all read a lot of books.
So I’m wondering does reading books improve you social skills, even a tiny bit? Or is it just coincidence?
