What do we mean when we call a woman a Jezebel? What exactly was a scapegoat? Why was a fast-and-furious driver called Jehu? In a more literate (and Bible-conscious) age, most people knew the source of these and hundreds of other names, phrases, and images. Artists and writers could assume their audiences would understand references to biblical people and events. Today, some of those meanings are lost. This book…

Product Description
Whether watching political candidates quote Jesus or tracking court cases on how the stories of Adam and Eve should be taught in schools, we are surrounded by the legacy of the Bible in our contemporary world. I am an atheist, but I am also a realist. And realistically, I live in a very theistic world.
My question is, when and how do I teach my children the stories of the Bible so that they don’t believe them as literal or spiritual truth (many are still good morality tales), but so that they do understand the cultural references that surround them in this society?

America is in the middle of a cultural meltdown. Despite a slew of new psychiatric drugs and treatments as well as politicians and educators who claim to have the answers to stop it, every American family has been affected. Millions are frantically searching for anyone who has answers to their problems. What created this meltdown? This meltdown was created by Biblical illiteracy, which is the direct result of God being “Silenced in the Schoolhouse”. -Dr. Michael L. Williams ~~~Silenced in the Schoolhouse tells the story how: * The Founding Fathers believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the foundation…

I doubt that anyone will disagree with me when I state that our society today in America is biblically illiterate. Specifically, I would define “biblically illiterate” as the following:
* Unfamiliar with the structure of the Bible. Most people could not explain why the Bible is split between Old and New Testaments. They cannot name the books of the Bible. That the books are grouped into certain categories is unknown to them. And, sadly, many people cannot even locate a verse of Scripture.
* Unfamiliar with the content of the Bible. Noah and Moses and Jesus are favorite stories, but are known only in…

Product Description
As he did so brilliantly in his bestselling book, jewish literacy,Joseph Teluslikin once again mines a subject of, Jewish history and religion so richly that his book becomes an inspiring companion and a fundamental reference. In Biblical Lileracy, Telushkin turns his attention to the Hebrew Bible (also known as the Old Testament), the most iniluential series of books in human history. Along with the Ten Commandments, the Bible’s most famous document, no piece of legislation ever enacted has influenced human behavior as much as the biblical injunction to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” No political tract has motivated human…
