Since when did education become a commodity? Posted on: Fri, 13 Jun 2008 09:37:16 -0500
I personally am a high school student who is busting my butt off studying so i can one day get a degree in biochemistry and study medicine, so i can support a family. What ticks me off is that all around me i hear people complaining about education, when they have it so easy. To top it off, they complain about the most superficial things ever.Ex: You cant even walk down my hallway these days without hearing something along the lines of "My english teacher makes me read so much!" or "Oh, he's mean. He wont let me sign onto myspace during class!"Since when have we as a society valued myspace and facebook over literacy and knowledge? And as a final insult, these people are complaining about education when not only is it supplied to us, but its FREE.In other countries, there is no education system, let alone that functions at no cost to children. What has changed to make the 'modern world' so superficial with their lives and what they have? And by the way, i'm part of this generation too xD but yea, i know what you mean by that
