If we imagine walking in for a job interview; the supervisor will hand an application to fill out and after sitting down and staring at it blankly for a couple minutes the humiliation gets to you and you finally admit that you cannot read. The supervisor then politely thanks you for coming in, but says there is no way he can hire anybody who cannot read. Reading is more important than ever in today’s society. If you cannot read well than you will find it hard to have a successful career, earn people’s respect, and even operate in…

If you cannot read well than you will find it hard to have a successful career, earn people’s respect, and even operate in your daily life.

The importance of reading grows more and more everyday. With all the technology that we have today people think that they do not have to read as much when actually you probably need to be able to read better. Reading is a necessity for some people and a hobby for others, but either way it is something that we start to take for granted as adults, forgetting that there was once a time when we couldn’t read. The sad fact is that for many adults, this is still the case. They lose out on the joys and the benefits of being able to read, and quite often it stems from lack of commitment and time from the parents during childhood.

There are a lot of things that come to mind when a person hears the word literature. Usually, one thinks of a book, story, classical work or some variation of the aforementioned but to ask someone to define the term literature, proves to be a much trickier task. Many are stumped when asked this question. People often answer by giving examples of literary works but fail to actually give an encompassing definition of the term.

In conclusion, reading exercises our imagination, broadens our vocabulary, understand different points of view, think about different issues and concepts, and lastly it gives us the experience of key figures in literacy and renowned texts. Reading and writing are ways to convey ideas and information, which is essential in society. Reading is good as in developing individual reading capacity just as practice always make perfect. Reading is a necessity!

Please dont use a Spanish translator, thanks!

“The essential and definite element of my conversion to Islam was the Qur’an. I began to study it before my conversion with the critical spirit of a Western intellectual …. There are certain verses of this book, the Qur’an, revealed more than thirteen centuries ago, which teach exactly the same notions as the most modern scientific researches do. This definitely converted me.” [Ali Selman Benoist, France, Doctor of Medicine.]

“The universal brotherhood of Islam, regardless of race, politics, color or country, has been brought home to me most keenly many times in my life — and this is another feature which drew me towards the Faith.” [Col. Donald S. Rockwell, U.S.A. Poet, Critic and Author.]

“Medieval Islam was technologically advanced and open to innovation. It achieved far higher literacy rates than in contemporary Europe; it assimilated the legacy of classical Greek civilization to such a degree that many classical books are now known to us only through Arabic copies. It invented windmills ,trigonometry, lateen sails and made major advances in metallurgy, mechanical and chemical engineering and irrigation methods. In the middle-ages the flow of technology was overwhelmingly from Islam to Europe rather from Europe to Islam. Only after the 1500’s did the net direction of flow begin to reverse.” [(pg 253) Jared Diamond a world renowned UCLA sociologist, and physiologist won the Pulitzer Prize for his book: "Guns, Germs, and Steel."]

“Four years after the death of Justinian, A.D. 569, was born at Mecca, in Arabia the man who, of all men exercised the
greatest influence upon the human race . . . Mohammed . . . ” [John William Draper, M.D., L.L.D., A History of the Intellectual Development of Europe, London 1875, Vol.1, pp.329-330]

Funny that no matter how much time you go back to those in high places, you will always see the creativity in their work and their words as they became exposed to Islam and found an understanding.
The question is, notice that only the bottom feeders are disputing things?

Don’t get me wrong….I’m glad that many Christians are recognizing that modern biology (study of life and its development….i.e. evolution) is a GREAT thing and is helping our advancement.

But I can’t help but wonder, how can they say that the two are compatible?

Evolutionary biologists believe that the first modern humans (god’s so called “children”) appeared at least 100,000 years ago (up to 200,000). Think about what life would have been like for them! They were left to fight for their lives in a harsh environment of constant disease and predators. The extreme climate, the wars and battles, the accidents, etc; the average life expectancy of a human would not be too much more than 25 years.

So, having witnessed the brutality and struggle for 98,000 years, the Christian god then decides that they should intervene and help humans, by impregnating a Jewish virgin, who gives birth to none other than god’s “son”. He then grows up and preaches forgiveness and love and morality, and he performs various miracles.

But in order to “save” humanity (why?) he is killed by means of the most ugly, stupid, grotesque savagery: a crucifixion. And this absolutely MUST take place in an illiterate barbaric part of Palestine? Instead of a place like China, where they had more technology and sophistication. They had better developed language and higher literacy rates…corruptions of translation and power struggles would’ve been more difficult with a people of better literacy, don’t you think?

Think about the mechanism of evolution known as natural selection. This selective force that results in varying degrees of reproductive success can be incredibly tame or incredibly savage. Animals that were too slow to outrun a cheetah would perish…but then again you can’t have animals that run too fast; otherwise, cheetahs would not have any food and would not survive. I mean, they’re all killing each other! It’s brutal, disgusting, and cruel.

The question is…how does this square up to (1) the idea of the Christian god being an all-powerful, all-perfect, intelligent, loving being; and (2) the Christian story about Jesus and his death and the reasons for his death?

The govts. worldwide have facilities and technology to print more notes and coins (currency). So, why don’t they give some financial-education and some money to poor people so that invest it wisely or start a business or utilize that money to create wealth to get rich?
If you say this won’t work, it clearly implies that this system of capitalism can never work to make everyone rich and to remove poverty from society. Then, why are we following this system at all? Though I’m in…

Though I’m in US but I’m talking of affairs outside US, in third-world as well as developing countries.

Why can’t the govt. give education to all if it can remove world-poverty? An estimated $30b only are needed for global literacy and education whereas more that $1 Trillion have been spent on wars and on buying billions in weapons in the name of public-security. Why? Is this the proper utilization of public funds? Why do we need such govts?
Bill H: That’s because some people got it for free, like those who inherited fortunes. Moreover, I don’t want it just for myself, I want i for the world, even for you. When (fiat) money is not rare at all, why can’t we all have it? Moreover, why can’t everyone get education? Of course, someone will earn but it has to be given or imparted first!
MR. JOHN,
WHAT YOU’VE JUST SAID IS ABSOLUTELY…

CORRECT.

That’s why I’m asking for free-education for these people so that they learn how to manage money.

Is it the quality of life? We have one of the most obese nations in the world, jobs are being pushed overseas because of the high price of labor (and in many instances lower quality of product – look at the difference in automotive quality between Asian made vehicles and U.S. made, as well as the difference in technology).

Is it education – we still don’t have equality of public education, and we don’t even come close to having the highest math, science, or literacy test scores in the world.

What exactly makes us the greatest country in the world?
My point being when people say “The Greatest Country in the World” I take it to mean they are comparing our country with other like countries – not radical Nations like Iran. Or communist nations like the former USSR.
I have traveled and lived in other nations – and I think talk about us being the “Greatest Nation in the World” blinds us to the fact that we are steadily falling behind the rest of the industrialized/advanced nations in several very important ways.

Complacency is my point – and some of you made it for me. We have more freedoms than Iran, so we are okay?

We have more opportunities than a lot of other nations – so THAT makes us the Greatest???

WHAT makes us the GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD??????
