Why is it that so many people think that if a president dies, and the VP becomes president, that the Speaker of the House moves up to VP?
Does no school teach government classes any more? Is the 25th Amendment that hard to read? Why don’t people grasp that the President, with the approval of Congress, gets to name a new VP?

because there are too many conservatives on here
welcome to America,
people here just ain’t that smart
Because they consider opinion more factual than facts are.
That’s the problem with the beliefs of Moveon.org, all trash all the time.
Should the President past away, then the Vice President becomes President. However, the Speaker of the House does not automatically become the Vice President. After wards, the new President appoints someone of her choosing to be the new Vice President.
However, should the President and Vice President past away at the same time, “then” the Speaker of the House becomes President.
I do not recall ever being required to read the Constitution in all my years of government education.
That is not coverd on the Daily Kos or Moveon.org site….
can you imagine the VP this congress would endorse.
cuz liberals are hysterical and feel before they think
When was the last time it mattered?
Do you remember Alexander Haig?
It is scary that many know so little and are going to vote!
Because book learning is so liberal and so elitist and we don’t want none of that.
Because it is the best interests of some politicians to treat Americans like mushrooms.
Ask yourself, which party supports public education and which party want vouchers? Which party wants free thought that challenges orthodoxy and which wants complete, intellectual and religious, indoctrination.
You will see why illiteracy is rampant.
No we shouldn’t vote for McCain.. He probably won’t die.. unless Sarah gets upset with him
Look at this website
http://hyerstandard.com/john-mccains-top...
NOW CONSIDER IF JOHN GOT upset AT SARAH. IS HE GOING TO CALL HER NAMES IN THE PUBLIC MEDIA LIKE HE DID HIS WIFE?? WHAT WILL SHE DO?? WHAT WOULD YOU DO??
1) His Own Wife, Cindy McCain: In his new book, The Real McCain, Cliff Schecter, a journalist and frequent contributor at the Huffington Post related perhaps the most disturbing of McCain’s tirades. During his 2000 White House bid, the Senator was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, his aides, and three journalists who spoke to Schecter on condition of anonymity, but independently confirmed each other’s accounts of the incident. Cindy McCain playfully ran her fingers through the Senator’s hair and teased, “You’re getting a little thin up there.” McCain reddened and fired back, “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollup, you c**t.” After he’d cooled down, McCain apologized, saying he’d had a long day.
If the president dies, and the VP is sworn in as the new pres, does the speaker of the House then get sworn in as the new VP? Or is there no official ceremony required? When LBJ was sworn in for JFK, who became the VP?
The Constitution specifies that if the president dies or leaves office before finishing his or her term, the vice president takes the job. The only “official ceremony” required by the Constitution is that any president must take the oath of office:
U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1: Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:–”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
If the vice president was unable or ineligible to ascend to the presidency (or if the office was vacant) the speaker of the House would be next in line under terms of the Presidential Succession Act, which was first passed in 1947. However, when the vice president becomes president, the speaker does not move into the office of vice president. The legislation only specifies who is to become president.
When the position of vice president becomes vacant, the 25th Amendment states:
25th Amendment: Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
The vice president takes the same oath of office as members of Congress. The 25th amendment was precipitated by the very case our reader asks about: When Lyndon B. Johnson became president after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the position of vice president remained vacant for the remainder of his term. Had Johnson left office during that time, House Speaker John W. McCormack of Massachusetts would have been next in line to take his place as president. After Johnson won the 1964 election, his running mate, Hubert H. Humphrey, became vice president. A few years later, in Feb. 1967, the 25th amendment was ratified.
This amendment has been invoked twice. In 1973, Vice President Spiro Agnew stepped down and was convicted of corruption charges after pleading “no contest.” President Richard Nixon then appointed House Republican Leader Gerald Ford as vice president. When Nixon resigned and Ford became president, Ford named former New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller as his vice president.
Political illiteracy is rampant everywhere.
People are gullible and ignorant. That’s not the real problem.
The problems is that they are comfortable in being so.
It becomes dangerous when those people start spewing out their lies to others and using the same gullibility and ignorance in that person to further the misinformation.
It does not surprise me one bit the way things are going out there.
This type of thing has been going on since the begining of time in highly urbanized and rural societies alike.
our educational system promoted the policies of the liberal educators while at the same time they failed to teach the basic government history plus many others important subjects that are important for our students to grow and become well verse in the history of our government which is crucial to the prosperity of our nation.
They think they are qualified to comment but yet they know nothing about how the government works.
Typical in politics…
I once read that fighting on the internet is the same as being in the Special Olympics, even if you win your still retarded!
Don’t bother trying to educate these people, none of them will listen and you will just be wasting your time.
Napoleon once said, Never correct your enemy when he makes a mistake. Perhaps we should do this instead of trying to “help” these hopeless people understand.
They have not learned to seek truth of the answers given to them.
Well the left seem to be the ones always whining about the VP picks so I wonder what they mean going on like they know whats going on?
The school system in this country is broken. With powerful teacher’s unions and the libs killing every voucher program it is to be expected. The teachers do not have to live up to any standards at all, they just have to show up. If you are a baby boomer and still wonder why “Johnny can’t read”, just go to any school and see how it has changed since YOU were a student.
Public schools with teacher’s unions. If you teach students then they will make educated decisions and we can’t have that in the view of the teacher’s union. Remember, the president of the teacher’s union said “teacher;s pay my salary, not students.”
