Product Description
There is perhaps nothing more important in a child’s education than the development of literacy skills. From the moment they are exposed to books, children are beginning to understand that what is spoken can also be written. These important discoveries aid in the construction of a child’s earliest literacy concepts and make the prospect of reading and writing attainable and exciting.
The latest in a series of discovery and activity books, More Than Letters is filled with dozens of fun and engaging activities designed to make literacy adventurous and meaningful for children. More Than Letters contains an extensive whole-language curriculum that creates classroom environments that surround children with meaningful print.
Each activity is accompanied by a photograph and a detailed explanation of how to set up the activity and construct materials. Also included are suggestions for comments and questions teachers can use to encourage phonetic awareness in their children.

I’m a sophomore and an Early Childhood Education major. I am currently in a class, teaching five year olds reading comprehension and I have found a couple of useful activities in this book.

I teach in a Head Start Program. Like children in every classroom, I see a range of literacy skills. This book TRULY offers ideas for individualizing for those different levels. I did not rate it a 4 because I found a deficiency, but because I do not personally believe anything is perfect. Yet, this is pretty good….Go to the bookstore and check it out yourself…

This is an excellent source of information if you have preschool or kindergarten age children in your home or classroom. I am studing to be an early childhood educator and have used this book many times to get ideas, for setting up a classroom and getting lesson plan ideas.

This book, along with every book in the series, is excellent. The books are filled with activities that really interest kids, and all are easy for teachers to present. I use these books almost daily!

I have other books in the “More Than” series, and have been waiting and hoping the authors would write one for the Language and Literacy category. This one is just as excellent as the others in the series. It tells you ways to use materials and make materials and games for literacy centers in your classroom. The book also covers group and individual activities and take home activities (literacy suitcases). I highly recommend the “More Than” series to every Pre-K and K teacher.
