We have just moved to Hertfordshire and I have been told that my son will be placed in a failing school because the other good schools are full. My son is in the gifted and talented groups in Numeracy and Literacy in his primary school and has has been predicted very good SATS grades. What are my options at this stage? Does anyone know of any loopholes? I’ve decided that I would rather let him stay at home than attend a failing school. All suggestions welcome! Many thanks.

You said it yourself. home school him, or take a second look at the ‘failing school’.
ALL schools have gifted kids and they make their way through just fine. Also, walk along to the school, are the kids happy, children learn better in a happy environment.
I have one in college, 2 in high school and one home schooled. The high school is not worried about the number of A*, only the well being of the kids. They have a farm, a hatchery, and carry two charters, one for sports and one for arts.
You may find that when he starts high school,in the first year they are great with homework and behaviour, then 2nd year it wavers and 3rd year it settles. All my children had high 5’s in year 6 but it changes in high school.
But at the end of the day either put hi on the waiting list or home school him. try Education-otherwise.site
You could send him to a private school if you have the money. Many in your area will probably not be full.
You might consider the Laurel Springs Acdemy for the Gifted and Talented, a private distance learning college preparatory school, fully accredited.
